It is ok to breastfeed and bottle feed baby formula at the same time?

By pregnantnews

I am 19 weeks pregnant and I am thinking about breastfeeding. I was wondering that if I start out breastfeeding my newborn should I just stick to that or can I switch once in a while and feed my child baby formula? I mean breastfeed and bottle feed, is that okay or no?

It’s fine! Actually as of recent years it has become much more acceptable with bottle makers designing bottle teats to specifically match the natural shape of a mothers breast so that fathers and other family can enjoy the experience of feeding bub also… please note though you will ALWAYS have people telling you that it isnt ok… but ultimately its up 2u

I started out breastfeeding and then had to go to formula as well to keep up with how much my daughter ate; (i wasn’t able to pump as quick, or as much, as she was eating.) The only concern i would have is that your child may not take to a bottle easily and then you wont be able to do both because he/she will only want to breastfeed. I was lucky and my daughter took to a bottle quickly so the transition between the two was easy.

I am a daddy and preschool teacher of 6years. it is perfectly ok to feed you baby both. But your baby may have a particulary sensitive stomach so just watch him once you start.

no if you do both you wll think bottles are easier and will bottle feed and not breastfeed

nothing wrong with doing that

Its fine, but if baby isn’t stimulating your milk production by feeding often, your milk supply will start to decrease. You can use a breastpump whenever you feed her and freeze the milk, just to keep supply up – only if you want to continue breast feeding. Your choice.

It is OK, though breast is best. If possible try to wait about 6 weeks before introducing the bottle. That way breastfeeding is well established and the risk of nipple confusion is really low. Also, know that alternating the two can interfere with your milk supply. The more you nurse the more milk you make. It works sort of like supply and demand.
If you’re wanting to bottle feed for the convenience of it then skip the formula altogether and just pump.

Good Luck!
