What is a good meal for a breastfeeding Mommy as to not make the baby gassy?
ByMy sister in law brought her first baby home today. I volunteered to cook a meal for them.
I want to find a nice meal that she can enjoy and not make the baby gassy. My sister in law is breastfeeding my nephew.
Any good meal ideas that my brother in law and sister in law can enjoy?
Thanks for your help!
You guys are too SWEET! ![]()
This is their first baby, they lost the first one. So, he is even more special to us, even if he is 3 weeks early!
I have had 3 babies myself, and it was a great benefit to have someone cooking meals for me while I rested.
She had a C-Section, I could only imagine the pain, because all of mine were born naturally!
Thank you for the ideas!

Yogurt parfait – layers of vanilla yogurt, fresh berries and granola. Pancakes, french toast, cooked oatmeal with brown sugar and craisens. toast, bananas. Just some ideas. That is very sweet of you. I wish I had someone that did the same.
Bring along a frozen dinner if possible – Lasagna and a loaf of garlic bread.

First of all let me tell you that is real nice of you to help out ur sister in law that is sweet, cause if it was me I would not help mine I can’t stand her and she is pregnant now she is a Witch. Well enough about her. You can not go wrong with Chicken soup with , or baked chicken with potatoes and carrots, peas side of rice. What ever u Do NOT give her broccoli, cauliflower or beans they will give the baby so much gas it’s not even funny avoid those foods! Good LUCK!

i would like to add that you got some good ideas so far but as a BFing mom I would also lay low on alot of dairy. It can make baby gassy or spit up for future ref.

I’d avoid chocolate (in dessert) and cruciferous veggies, like broccoli. A nice salad with tomatoes or cucumbers is great–she’ll be craving fruits and veggies, believe me! Anything else, from pasta to potatoes, is great.
If you want, in addition to a meal, bring some snacks for her. Those first couple weeks you don’t have much time or energy to make yourself something to eat so if you have something, like a low fat oatmeal raisin cookie packed with dried fruits or nuts, that you can just grab and eat it really helps! (Also, oatmeal is a natural milk increaser.)

I nursed both of my kids and no matter how much beans, broccoli or cauliflower I ate while nursing they were fine I on the other hand was the one with all the gas…Just avoid the no-brainers and fried foods everything else is fine By the way YOUR AWESOME!!

Babies get used to whatever their mother ate before they were born, and usually don’t react to those foods when the mom eats them while she is breastfeeding them. I would bring a meal you know that your sister in law enjoys eating and not worry so much about whether it will give the baby gas. That’s really wonderful that you are bringing her a meal. I’m sure she really appreciates having your for her sister in law.

I had a c-section and breastfed. I was in major pain, and needed help! So, thank God for people like you who help out! Any food should be fine, but to be extra safe (more for mommy than baby), you may want to avoid extra gassy foods because gas rolling around on the inside of a scar is extremely painful. Then again, often those foods have more fiber and if mommy eats those more often, they won’t cause her as much gas and will also help with constipation which when added to gas is about as painful as labor!
As far as baby is concerned, he should be fine. Mommy can eat anything she wants, but if something does bother baby, she may want to avoid it for a few weeks and try again. It’s probably too early to tell right now anyways. Find out what she’s been craving. She’ll be happier, and that makes everybody happy!
