Comparing Daycare Facilities
When considering childcare, it is important not to overlook the quality of physical environment offered by Brookline daycare facilities you consider. Studies show a positive relationship between learning and a child’s physical environment. Parents who are looking for a quality preschool or day care center in Brookline should always take the condition of a child care center’s facilities into account, as well as other factors, such as the preschool curriculum and educational and nurturing philosophy.
Before enrolling a child, parents should take the time to compare the facilities of several potential Brookline childcare centers, family daycare or Brookline preschools they are considering. This is especially true if the learning center was not originally set up to provide daycare services or if the childcare is provided from a private residence.
Why Are Daycare Facilities Important?
The quality of a daycare center’s facilities are not just important for the safety and health of your toddler or preschooler, they also impact your child’s ability to learn and socialize. As critical as it is to have a nurturing teaching environment at your youngster’s childcare center, preschool or family daycare in Brookline, it is equally important to have facilities that nurture their well-being.
The facilities at a Brookline childcare center, daycare or preschool in Brookline also play a role in the ability of a teacher or day care provider to implement high quality learning and nurturing. Cramped, dimly lit play areas and classrooms, or a maze of rooms in any Brookline daycare facilities impede the ability of staff members to keep an eye on children, making this a safety issue as well.
What Parents Should Look For
Of primary importance when comparing daycare facilities in Brookline is the physical layout, including the arrangement and juxtaposition of classroom areas and play areas and proximity to bathrooms (i.e. within eyesight of the main classroom and play areas). Exits should be clearly marked as such and kitchen areas, if present, should be easy to navigate, free from electrical hazards, clean, and well lit. There should be several toilets and sinks for hand washing, enough to accommodate the number of students attending the Brookline childcare center.
In summary, when comparing daycare facilities in Brookline, the presence of windows for natural light and ventilation, heating and cooling systems that function properly, an adequate number of toilets and sinks, bright indoor and outdoor lighting, and sufficient open space for playing both indoors and out do matter. After all, would you want to spend all day in a dark and dreary office? Probably not and neither does your child.

What is an Enriched Preschool Program?
Many of the best Brookline preschools offer enriched programs as part of their curriculum. Why? Because numerous studies have demonstrated that enrichment programs benefit children in every socioeconomic group enabling them to become productive citizens of the world in the future. Are you tired of your 9 to 5 job? Or maybe you are at the point that you want to be your own boss. Whatever the reason, you are looking to do some research on how to start your own daycare business. But before you think about jumping into the daycare pool, you need to get your feet wet and come up with a business plan that will be the rock of your business. Your daycare business plan will be the document that you will go to when ever you run into any hurdles, which is a definite possibility.
Here are some areas of interest that need to be addressed when developing your home based business plan. You will be making your life a lot easier by developing you business plan ahead of opening your business.
Will you business be a home based or commercial daycare?
Does the state require that I be a licensed daycare? Some states only require that you be licensed if you provide services to so many children.
What type of funding requirements will you need, if any? Some new daycare providers find that they need to upgrade the safety features of there facility. You will need money to do these improvements.
How many children do you plan to provide service for?
Will you need to hire employees and what will the minimal requirements be for your employees?
These are just a few questions that need to be addressed when developing your daycare business plan. Be careful not to rush through developing the plan. It does not need to be perfect and can always be amended to allow you some flexibility as your business grows.

KING DIAMOND on CAPITAL CHAOS 1998

KING DIAMOND on CAPITAL CHAOS 1998 @ The Eldorado Saloon in Sacramento, CA 1998…also on the bill were THE COUNCIL & PITBULL DAYCARE King Diamond is the heavy metal band that King Diamond formed after the split up of his First Wave of Black metal band Mercyful Fate. Also following the departure of Hank Shermann. He was joined by most members of the then defunct Mercyful Fate. The Satanic focus was replaced by a focus on horror stories. Apart from two albums, each of the albums contained a story told throughout the songs; some stories span more than one album. Only Fatal Portrait and The Spider’s Lullabye deviate here, in that only half of the songs form a story while the other songs are independent. www.covenworldwide.org The band was first launched with the album Fatal Portrait, which featured the guitar talents of Andy LaRocque, who would become King Diamond’s longest running collaborator. In 1987, the King Diamond band released Abigail, which is often considered his best solo work. The album tells the tale of an 18th century house that is inherited by a young couple who soon discover its dark secrets. Abigail was followed by Them and its sequel Conspiracy, which also told of a demon possessed house, this time maintained by a demented old woman who drinks tea made from human blood. www.theunitedstatescoven.com Following the departure of drummer Mikkey Dee (who joined Don Dokken’s band and then would later join Motörhead), King Diamond released The Eye but did not tour …
Has anyone seen that news story?
Posted by: | CommentsQuestion by Monty: Has anyone seen that news story?
About the lady who got arrested for babysitting her friend’s children without charging the Mother money for it? Accused of running an illegal day care service. Apparently, the day cares who charge money don’t like it when someone does this for free.
Now, how many times have I babysat for free for friends or relatives? Too many to count. And with never a thought that I was doing anything illegal!
This weekend, my grandchildren are staying with us, while their parents travel. Do you suppose I can get into trouble for it? Should I tell my daughter that she will have to pay us? I don’t think she has a lot. What if I charge her per day? Would that be enough to keep my “daycare” legal?
This world is going nuts! That’s my opinion. What do you think?
Best answer:
Answer by Gabriel B
I think nothing will happen with this, and the lady was not actually arrested.
Also, she and you would have to get a license to operate a day care facility. So don’t waste your time and go about your business as usual.

HELP! My kindergärtner ignores his teacher when she’s speaking to him. What can I do?
Posted by: | CommentsQuestion by Sarah: HELP! My kindergärtner ignores his teacher when she’s speaking to him. What can I do?
My very social kindergärtner did not speak back to his teacher when she said good morning to him today, even after I told him to do so. He just looked and walked in the opposite direction. This is NOT a good way to start the school year. His teacher briefly appeared a little offended. I just told her that he is just really looking forward to seeing his friends. Truth is, he does this ofter with all adults. What’s going on here? He is not shy, but he hesitates or even refuses to speak to adults when spoken to. I believe this is one reason why he did’t get into the first private school I tried to get him into. I am now a little nervous about my son’s and his teacher’s relationship, especially since this is ONLY a private kindergarten program (Run out of “Children’s Lighthouse Daycare”) which means I’ll need this teacher’s help to get him transferred into another private school for 1st grade. So, I need her to like my son. Any suggestions?
Best answer:
Answer by Mel
Is your son’s hearing ok?
If he is socialble towards his friends he is not shy, so that is not an issue.
I would ask the teacher to come down to his level when saying good morning he may fear authority.
If that doesn’t work then I suggest you tell him off for not being polite or take away one of his toys etc. Discipline him.
Hope this helps x

Should i go to UAT (University of Advancing Technology)?
Posted by: | CommentsQuestion by xxxicey: Should i go to UAT (University of Advancing Technology)?
I’m not sure what college i should attend next year, and have been doing research on UAT. It has a lot of bad rep it seems for being more of a “geek daycare” then a good college. I’d like to do something similar to computer science, or maybe even game design
So my questions are:
Is it worth it to go to UAT? (from what ive read so far it is not)
Can i get a job at a company with a degree from UAT?
From what i’ve read, some people slack off here and pass, and for the money this school wants, i want a good education and an enjoyable college experience, rather then just have an amazing college experience and a piece of paper that employers will disregard
Best answer:
Answer by lanes_aim
Have you visited UAT yet? If not, I encourage you to visit just like you should any other University you plan on attending. In your visit is when you will find out the information you are looking for. If you visit UAT, I hear there is a 0 travel voucher you can get. It would be applied to your first semester at UAT. Good luck in your college search!

Is my job a lawsuit waiting to happen? Should I Quit?
Posted by: | CommentsQuestion by Blue Ribbon: Is my job a lawsuit waiting to happen? Should I Quit?
I just got a job as a daycare “teacher”. I have 12 three-year-olds then the second half of the day they send me a bunch of older kids, the oldest of which is a 12 y.o. boy. Also, I have a mentally retarded boy that goes around and throws toys at kids and bites them. I can’t even discipline the boy bc he is so impaired that he doesn’t understand the concept of right and wrong. The 12. y.o. was hoarsing around with a 4 y.o. and the 4 y.o. get socked in the head and had a HUGE red mark and was screaming for hours. The dad demanded to know what happened at the end of the day. Also, yesterday a 3 y.o. hit her face on the corner of a table and had a faint bruise (I gave her an ice pack). Well, her Dad yelled at her WHO WAS THE TEACHER THAT YOU WERE WITH? And when he found out it was me he glared at me and seemed angry.. He demanded to know if i filed a report…Um, I have 12 kids running around plus a 12y.o. old boy. How the heck do I have time to fill out an incidence report? Also, I have to fill out all these charts about each child like how much exactly they ate, number of times they went potty.
I feel this is a lawsuit waiting to happen. The 12. yo will sock a kid and will get a concussion or brain damage….And i will be sued. Or the girl that is disobedience and climbs on chairs to get to the top of the shelf (where my scissors are) and falls and hurts herself.
Should i just quit? I think my job is more of a high risk of being sued then a doctor!!
How can one person be expected to take care of 12plus kids??? 12 year olds mixing with 3 year olds???
Best answer:
Answer by Stuart
Don’t know what state you’re in, but I am not aware of any licensed day care provider that is allowed to have one caretaker for 12 three year olds, much less additional kids on top of that.
You need to find a more legitimate job. That one is a lawsuit waiting to happen.

I watch a couple kids and have a application to become listed but i want to become registered to be able to take 2 more kids i know they inspect your house and all that and have breifly read the rules and regulations but i cant find anything about the space. do you have to have a room designated for the “daycare”room that has tons of toys and tons of books. etc i just have a bookshelf in my living room with some books and a toy box with a few toys and have colors glue etc am i going to have to moveinto a bigger home and have a room for my childcare and have the toy kitchens and tables for eating tables for play and all that? i have a folding kids table with chairs that the kids eat on anddo activities on.
also outdoor play.
i read that it is required that you provide outdoor play.
I dont have a fenced yard so do i have the ability to take my 3 month old baby and 4 or 5 kids all outside. they will run in complete different directions.
how do you run your home daycare?
I can not charge more than 0 a week since there are so many people wanting to watch kids charging -0 a week most of them are not even listed though but parents seam to be willing to pay less for non listed child care since they cant afford good child care

It’s going to vary from state to state. Read your rules and regulations again, taking the time to read each rule. Your space requirement will be there.
In MI:
R 400.1915 Indoor space; play equipment and materials
(1) a childcare home shall provide not less than 35 square feet per child of safe, usable, accessible indoor floor psace, not incuding bathrooms and storage areas.
(2) Only space that has received prior approval for child use by teh department may be used for child care.
(3) A variety an dnumber of easily accessible activity choices shall be available to the child, shall be safe and appropiate for a child at his or her stage of development, and shall be based on teh licensed/register3ed numbe rof children. All of the following apply to activity choices available:
(a) Materials may include, books, art supplies, blocks and accessories, large muscle equpiment, manipulative toys, musical equipment, and dramatic play materials
And there are more details under that rule.
R 400.1920 Outdoor play area and equipment
(1) A child care home shall privde a clean, safe, and hazard free outdoor play area, on the premises or within a reasonable walking distance of the home.
(2) The play area size shall be the following:
(a) Not less than 400 sq ft for a family child care home.
(b) Not less than 600 square feet for a group child care home.
(3) A child care home shall provide an adequate and varied supply of outdoor play equipment, materials, and furniture…
(4) The outdoor play area and equipment shall be organized:
(a) separate active and quiet
(b) clear and unobstructed view of the whole play area
(c) safe distances between equipment
(5) When swings, climbes, slides etc…(play area surface info)
You don’t necessarily need a fence—unless you have a body of water, busy road, pool, etc.
As for kids running every where…it’s all about your expectations and what you teach the children…set visual boundaries and be sure they heed them and you’ll do just fine.
As for cost— you seem to know what the going rate is…you sound like you are in a rural area. I always set what DHS (state reimbursements) payments were for our area as a baseline (.00/hr in our rural area) and added about .50/hr.
Good for you—for becoming licensed/registered. It really is for our safety as well as the children’s!

Views on working at a childcare centre?
Posted by: | CommentsQuestion by Lana88: Views on working at a childcare centre?
Hey.
Im 21 and I have just completed a diploma that allows me to work at a childcare centre or kindergarten. I love working with children obviously, but i plan to link my qualification to get myself into primary teaching. I recently have not been accpeted into uni for the first offers, and have come to realise i will have to work for a bit if i dont get into uni at all.
I am fine with the fact of working at a childcare centre. Its just im getting a little silly and wondering what other people would think if they asked me what i did and i answered ” I work with children at a daycare”. What would your first thoughts and reactions be?
Thanks in advance!

Who cares what other people think. Some think it’s underpaid, some think those who go into child care have no other aspirations and aren’t “clever” enough to do anything else, the majority of people I’ve come across are actually proud of practitioners. After all, it can be pretty difficult dealing with 30 children in one room all by yourself – not many people have the skill of being able to control every single child in the room whilst teaching/setting work.
If it’s what you want to do, you do it. It’s a brilliant profession and sometimes I wonder if I should have stuck at nursery rather than train to be a primary teacher!
If you go through life wondering what other people will think about the choices you make, you will be a complete nervous/anxious wreck.
What do you think? Answer below!
How do i tell a day care client i cant watch her kids anymore?
Posted by: | CommentsQuestion by Lillybug: How do i tell a day care client i cant watch her kids anymore?
Okay, so, i do in home daycare, for three kids, and then i have my own daughter. And i never take on more than these three kids, by law in the state of Oregon you are allowed to take on three kids not including your own without being registered or certified. And just so we are all clear, i am registered in the criminal background registry but not a licensed daycare “facility”. So anyhow, two of these kids are boys, 3 years old, and 17 months old, and they are brothers. Their mom is 20-21 years old and doesnt work, but she is going to school so the state pays for her daycare…she is approved for 28 hours a week and thats how often i watch her boys. The other child is 5 months old, and i only have him about 10 hours a week, and its usually when i dont have the two boys so it makes it alot easier to give my attention to the baby.
While i love doing daycare, these two boys are taking everything out of me. Neither one of them talk, and the 17 month old is incredibly small and barely walks, it feels like watching two infants when the baby is here! Neither one of them are potty trained, nor has the mom even started potty training them. I was potty training my daughter before they enrolled and now it seems like we have fallen back to square one. She see’s these boys, who arent required to do anything…talk…use manners…use forks or spoons…and now she is falling into the same pattern. Ive tried to make these boys realize that there are rules at my house, but they are not required to follow any at home so its not working.
I just feel like by doing daycare for these two boys it is really affecting the way my daughter is being raised, and i REALLY do not like that. They are exposing her to a different lifestyle and its not an approved lifestyle. I really want to just tell this woman i cant do daycare for her anymore and she needs to find someone else. Its been about two weeks now, and i dont know what to do…should i just stick it out for awhile, or tell her to find someone else? and if i do tell her to find someone else, how do i do that! Just looking for peoples opinions…thanks guys!
Well my question was actually what i should do…i have very obviously been trying to help these boys learn, and if your child acted the way they do, then you should look into some parenting classes. They have never been taught to use utensils, the throw their food when they are eating it, they actually threw a toy at me yesterday and broke a window! And when i tell their mom she just says “oh its terrible twos…” well my daughter just turned two and has NEVER acted like this, we are strong enforcers of time out and nose in the corner…which i try to use with these boys but they have never been introduced to anything like this before. I will not change the way i parent or run my day care so i can facilitate to this womans bratty children.
Its really not that she doesnt work that bothers what, the only thing that bothers me about her in particular is she goes to school for 3 hours a day and i watch her kids for 7 hours a day, four days a week…and then i just found out yesterday that two of the days im watching her kids shes not even in school…(which mind you, the state wont pay me for the days that i have done childcare for and she hasnt reported to school) so its just not turning into a good situation. Its really not the children that i cant stand, its their mothers lack of attention. I can deal with throwing things and yelling and temper tantrums, but when i tell her about it or right it down, i expect her to react and agree to work on it with me. I cant help these kids understand how to be acceptable if they are only with me for four days a week and then with her for the rest of it…
And i refuse to place my own child on the back burner so i can jump to the lack of attention these kids’ mother is giving them.

No maybe your just not cut out for childminding. Can I ask how old you are as your coming across as quite young to me. My daughters childminder supported me with all aspects of my daughters development including potty training, life skills etc. That I believe is law in uk. 17 months is quite young to be potty trained fully. If you feel that these you need to blame this children for your daughters set backs you need to step back and take another more open look at the situation and see what you can do.
