About to start full time employment and need ideas of what to do with with my dog?

By pregnantnews

Question by Defiantly not jack… im bob: About to start full time employment and need ideas of what to do with with my dog?
I got my GSD around 5 months ago, he is now just over 7 month.
So when i leave college he will be about 1, i don’t think it is fair to leave any dog home alone for that amount of time never mind an energetic puppy like him.
I’ve found several websites about places that you take your dog to and they play and exercise with other people and dogs, and the one i like is a easy 20 min walk and is in my expected price range and the business looks good, but are “doggy daycare” places where you can leave them 5 days a week or not.

any other ideas of what i can do are greatly appreciated because if i can’t think i might have to get rid of my dog and i really DONT want to do it.
dorothy s- i was planning on going to university, but want some time out of full time educuation due to the fact that i have been there since 4. And yes i am because i have family who are paying for his food and vet bills etc but i would be paying for him to be looked after. And he loves other dogs and people so please dont make stereotypical blanket comments like that, life changes and brings unexpected things up all the time, this is one of them and i am trying to think of an appropriate way to get around not be ridiculed by some random women on the internet.

Maybe someone close by could be a dogsitter. Post an ad. People need jobs at this time and I’m sure there’s a doglover out there who would do it. :-)

no need to get rid of your dog. We take our dog to doggy daycare 5 times a week. When he goes to work with my husband we have a dog walker come and take him for 1 hour walks. Doggy Daycare is awesome, he is still excited like crazy to get inside and plays all day. When we pick him up, he is beat, however we go for another 1 hour walk when we get home. Millions of people have dogs and work full time.

My dog goes to a doggie daycare place twice a week. The other three days, I go home at lunchtime to walk her. You can take a dog to daycare five days a week, if you can afford it.

Yes, doggy daycares are places you can bring your dog five days a week. You could also hire a dog walker, you don’t have to hire a professional (someone in business)some kids from the neighborhood might like to make extra money.

Well it is not fair on the dog, being stuck in the house all day long. If it was an older dog about 5-6 the dog would not mine being in the house all day, but you have a 7 month dog. Needs a lot of exercise and walks.

If you are considering re-homing the dog, get in touch with GSD Rescue.
NOT THE RSPCA.

Hope this Helped

When we did have a dog, she usually spent the day sleeping in her crate (often with the door open) until we got home from school. No need to get rid of your dog. Also, I’m sure you can find a student who will hang out at your house watching TV and watching your dog for much less than a doggy daycare. Or even someone to walk him a few times while you’re gone will make it easier for him.

Hi! Hope this helps.

Since canines are highly social creatures, being alone can be quite stressful for them. Fortunately, you can teach your pup to enjoy his alone time, or at least tolerate it. If he never grasps how to do this, you may wind up with a dog who acts out through excessive barking, digging, and chewing – or develops a very serious case of separation anxiety.

Thank you!

You knew when you bought your GSD how old you were and when you would go into full time employment. Like many young people you wanted a dog without considering its future. I hope that you are financially capable of taking him to doggy day care and I hope that other young people read your question and my response.
Dogs are dumped every day because people like you fail to consider how they can cope. Perhaps someone who cares will adopt him if ultimately you have to part with him. I suspect that you have neither socialised nor trained your dog. Hells teeth, you have had him for just a few months and you are now considering dumping him. This unloved puppy may ultimately be euthanized because you have failed to help him during his formative months.
