In regards to babysitting, I would like mothers’ opinions.?

Question by **ME**: In regards to babysitting, I would like mothers’ opinions.?
I am considering babysitting, out of my apartment, as a supplemental income. I would be interested in babysitting a single child between the ages of 1-3 years old.

I have no children of my own, but much experience w my niece and nephews. Although, I can honestly say that I’ve never babysat in my own home-only at the home of others.

With that being said, I currently have nothing in my home catered to the needs of a child. I.e. toys/playroom etc.

I would like you gals’ opinions and experience on some of the things that I would need to provide in my home in order to just to babysit(other than TLC!).

If you were to bring your 1-3 yr old to my home, what are some of the things that you would like to see? Also, how much do you/have you/would you pay for this service?

I ask this because I want to know the necessities, BUT the minimum. I just plan to babysit for like 4 hrs a day and I don’t want a full blown “daycare” theme with animals on the wall or a dedicated play room etc.

Thanks ladies.

I would have to say some pretty simple toys. One’s bought from Walmart or a Dollar Store. Also childrens books. You can pick those up for cheap also. Some soft pillows/blankets and stuffed animals.

Most of the time for 4 hours a Mother will leave you with the necessities needed to care for their child. All of these things found in a diaper bag. Wouldn’t hurt for you to get a couple of DVDs of preschool type shows. Or even DVR a few of the shows. I would be willing to pay about – a day for a 4hour time period to watch a 1 – 3 year old.

Previous answer is right. Simple toys and children’s movies would be good, just make sure to get things to cater to the age ranges that you are looking to sit for. Make sure that you have a lot of age appropriate snacks and drinks, and of course clear with the parents what they are and are not allowed to have. Your house will also need to be clean, smoke free and child proofed. Because of the age range you are looking to sit for it might not hurt to invest in a pack and play or something that can serve as a crib in case the child needs a nap.

I would like to see a nice friendly home some baby toys I would bring some formula And vegetables That are smashed if you were to have a big home I would like to see a place for her to nap!!!

I have to agree with the idea of either a play pin or a crib for the children to sleep in. Other then that most of what has been said is accurate.

I should point out that you can get books and movies from your local library. Your first few times babysitting I would use free books from the library, then later on if you find yourself babysitting regularly you can get some books to keep permanently.

A changing pad would also be a good idea, assuming the parents don’t provide one. You don’t need a full blown changing table, just one of those easily cleaned pads you put on the ground to change a kid with.
