Alternatives to CRY IT OUT METHOD fr a one year old?

By pregnantnews

I have a one year old daughter who has slept through the night without a problem since 3 months. However, it takes one of us walking her around for somewhere between 15 and 30 minutes to get her to go to sleep. Because she is one year old this isnow becoming a problem. We are not firm believers in the CRY IT OUT METHOD and are looking for some other less agressive measure.

Have you tried reading the book “No cry sleep solution” by Elizabeth Pantley? It offers some good suggestions that in no way involve CIO.

Check out her website, there is some info and exerts from her book on the site.

Since your daughter is 1 year old, look at the No Cry Sleep solution info for Toddlers also.

crying it out is not aggressive. It actually teaches a child to calm themselves and to be able to achieve restful sleep on their own. I let my daughter cry it out and it was VERY tough. My husband and I sat on the floor outside of her door and cried ourselves. It took about 4 days. Each day she fussed less and less. She sleeps very soundly now. Nothing wakes her and she is very rested when she wakes. It’s hard but, in the long run, it is good for them. If you can get past the first couple of nights, you’ll be fine.

Establish a bedtime routine. Like bath time, story time and then calming music. That way your daughter knows whats coming next. If you do the same thing every night she will begin to know what is next by the pattern of the events. You also might have to rub her back softly and help her drift off to sleep.

How many naps does she take? I had to do this when my son was still taking two naps. Recently he has dropped to one two hour nap (on his own) and he sleeps at 8:00 and we only rock him for about 5 minutes b/c he is too tired.
