Did your baby “crawl” backwards before they started really crawling?

By pregnantnews

Question by Austin and Ava’s Mom: Did your baby “crawl” backwards before they started really crawling?
When my daughter is on her belly, she kinda pushes herself backwards in a way that almost looks like a backwards crawl. I will put a toy in front of her just out of her reach, and when she reaches and can’t get it she starts that “crawling” backwards thing. Is this the start of real crawling? My son never crawled, so I have no idea. She is 6.5 months old.

My niece did that. She is trying to figure it out and she will.

My daughter started scooting backwards like that about a month before crawling. She was crawling at 9 months. I think most of the time it is easier for them to start crawling backwards first.

My daughter didn’t do this, but I have known several babies who have. I think it’s normal…I think it has something to do with figuring out “pushing” before “pulling” and how one comes easier than the other for some babies.

my son did that for literally months before he figured out how to go forward. he also did this weird bridge thing where he would put his butt straight up in the air and try to crawl that way.

My son was scooting backwards for about 2-3 weeks before he started crawling at 7 months.

Yep, Angela did that at 5-1/2 months. I have a video of her scooting backwards, I’ll have to look for it. She had going forwards figured out in about a month. Good luck!!

My son is 6 1/2 months old too and he’s been doing the same thing. He also rolls everywhere at the moment. But from what other people have told me, crawling forward is just a short time away.

My girls are 8.5 months and they have both been doing this for the past couple of weeks. I think we’ll see crawling here pretty soon. Lilly is figuring out how to launch herself forward instead of back and she can get on all fours, but she hasn’t figured out the traditional crawl.
