How far along were you in your pregnancy when you had to buy maternity clothes?
ByI’m 6 1/2 weeks and I’ve had to go buy a few pairs of pants that are a size larger than what I normally wear – I also got pants that stretch so hopefully they’ll last a bit.
How far along were you when you had to buy your first piece of maternity clothing?

I was wearing maternity clothes at 10 weeks. They were just much more comfortable for me. I could still fit in my other clothes but they were not at all comfortable! So I may have started too early but all I care about is baing comfy!

I had some, but didn’t have to wear them until I was 6 months pregnant, then it was like my belly popped out overnight!

I was 6 months before I bought anything maternity. If you have a small frame and are only gaining in your belly you might get by with what I did to save money, I wore my regular jeans and tied an elastic hair band around the button. It worked great.

With my first, I was in maternity clothes by the 10th or 11th week. With my second, I’m only 8 weeks and had to bust out my sweats and maternity jeans yesterday. You’ve probably bought yourself a few weeks. You can wear a belt and unbutton the pants, too. That helped me for a while.

I did the same thing – bought stretchy and a size larger. I lasted until about 20 weeks before I bought maternity. Good Luck!

It really is determined by the baby, how many pregnancies you have had and your body size.
With my first DD I barely even fit into maternity clothes at 9 months. With my second DS I was wearing them my last month. With my third I never got out of my normal clothes {fyi a loss} and with my fourth {also a loss} I was buying a bigger size before 6 wks!
So it all is up in the air.

With my first I was about 4 months along before I had to buy pregnancy clothes.. with my 2nd I was only 4 WEEKS along before having to dig into my preggo clothes!! It really depends on you and how thin you were BEFORE getting pregnant!! The smaller you were, the sooner you are going to “show.” But have FUN with it all!! Pregnancy clothes are GREAT!!! Its the only time in your life that you can be PROUD of being big and also the only time that it is “acceptable” to wear ELASTIC!! ha ha!! Preggo clothes are SOO darn cute these days too! I tell ya.. I was actually sad to see my clothes go b/c I LOVED them so much!! Email me dkjourneaux@yahoo.com and we are around the same size maybe I can send you some of mine to get you by until you HAVE to buy some!!

It’s different for everybody, but a lot of new mothers gain more weight with their first pregnancy than their second. They also have a pencheant for gaining more water weight in their first pregnancy than with the second. My first pregnancy I bought pregnancy clothes six weeks in. My second, I wore my jeans up until the sixth month and then I could still wear them under my belly. Of course – with the first pregnancy I gained over 100 pounds. The second I actually lost (including the weight of the baby) by the ninth month 30 pounds. It depends on your water retention which is directly linked to your activity level. If your doctor says its okay – even if you are tired and nauseous, getting up and moving around – going for a walk really helps with the water retention issues and can make you feel better in general.

Depends on which pregnancy you are talking about. LOL. It differs from person to person. If you are skinny then you probably will show quicker. If it is you 1st you probably will show quicker also. The best thing to do is buy the bigger clothes and grow into them cause you will.

I was about 5 months pregnant with my first child when I started wearing maternity clothes. I think it was because I was so sick and lost almost 20 pounds my first couple of months. Good luck to you.
PS: The best place to find maternity clothes on a budget is Goodwill or Salvation Army thrift stores and resales shops.

I’m 9 weeks and i find that stretch pants are really comfortable, anything that isn’t tight on your belly, and bigger shirts because your breast will start to get bigger and hurt a lot. just get what makes you happy and comfortable. good luck, best wishes..
