When buying maternity clothes if you’re normally a M, do you buy that size or go to a large?
ByIm expecting in September so I’m not quite into maternity clothes yet, but this is for when I am.
I’m normally a medium, do I buy a medium top when I’m 9 months pregnant, or do I go up to a large? I know how silly this sounds.

If you wear a medium then you buy a medium maternity.

You would typically wear the same size(but in maternity clothes) unless you gain more than the expected baby weight or if you prefer loser clothing during pregnancy.

For most of your pregnancy the maternity clothes should be in the same size as your pre pregnancy clothes… Although like you my first son was born 9/11/2009… And from about 8 months on you may have to get bigger clothes and shoes!!! Being that far along in the heat of summer caused me to retain a lot of water and swell pretty bad towards the end… But don’t worry as soon as baby comes out your normal feet come back!!!

I found that buying maternity clothes was very difficult – I found them all extremely huge on me, buying the size I normally wear. It wasn’t until I was about 7-8 months that I finally fit them, and by the end of 8 months -9months, the maternity clothes hardly fit – I stopped caring halfway through my 9th month if my stomach was showing or not.
So I don’t plan on spending alot of money on maternity clothes – I usually will buy one or two shirts brand new for a treat, and the rest I’ll buy second hand, just because I don’t know when I’ll fit them or for how long I’ll fit them for.
My first son I didn’t gain a whole lot of weight, but my second son was so huge (10 lbs) and in such a funny position that I had a hard time finding anything long enough to cover my stomach near the end. The one thing to invest in is a pair of maternity jeans – man, those things are so comfortable!!!!
I’m pregnant with my 3rd and only 12 weeks along – I bought a bunch of normal shirts the other day, with being pregnant in mind, making sure that they were roomy/not to tight, and that they would be long enough to cover my stomach in for a good portion of my pregnancy. When I get too big for those, I will buy for the size that I am at that time – I’ve learned it’s hard to judge. Some people gain only 20 lbs, and some people gain 50 -60!
Another tip – you can buy bra extenders, if you find you don’t need to go up a cup size. As baby grows, he seems to push on your ribs and expand them a bit, making your regular bra an uncomfortable fit.

They say buy your normal pre-preg size. I’m usually a small or medium and I bought an x-small, or a small shirt and it’s huge on me still. Try on a medium but then maybe try a small, if might fit you better.

You would buy the same size you wore Pre-pregnacy. For example..if you wore a 5/6 in pants..you’d buy the same in Maternity

It depends on alot of factors you may not get that big and won’t need to go up a size. You may get really big. I fit my usual clothes right up until the last month. I got 1 pair of maternity jeans then a couple of tops in my size but just a more stretchy fabric.
