BPA-free Bottles vs. Others. What are your thoughts and opinions?

By pregnantnews

I’m trying to decide which type of bottles to use with our baby. We’re expecting our 2nd this year. With our first, I nursed for a while, then used the Playtex Nursers/Drop-Ins. I’ve read some information on the BPA-free glass bottles. They’re quite pricey!!! I believe that if something is safer for your baby, money shouldn’t matter. (My husband, however, is cheap….lol)

I was planning on using the Playtex Drop-In bottles again, but I want to make sure they’re safe. I don’t microwave bottles except to sterilize the nipples and tops. (I use the Medela Steam bags to sterilize them).

But, I’d like to know if the BPA-bottles are worth the extra cost and all the hype. Can anyone give me some information on these bottles? What are your opinions on the BPA-free bottles? Do you use them? Recommend them?

Thanks!!

get a Drbrown bottle..the plastics one no longer contain bpa in them
Infact here is a site..that shows everythng for babies that is bpa free
http://www.safemama.com

also did you know that ALL formula containers contain bpa? Yes it sure does. But the refuse to take it out, due to the fact there is no proof that it hurts people/babies/children

I dont think there is anything wrong with them, besides the price. I think your chances of using the Playtex Vent-Air Bottles are just as good as others. The drop in bottles are better for gassy babies and give them less bubbles or air. The Vent-Air bottles work just the same. My son is 5 months and we have been using the Vent-Air bottles and it helped with his gas ALOT!! So I recommend those….GOOD LUCK!

Actually, I believe that the drop ins are BPA-free.. the holder part of the bottle contains BPA but the drop ins dont. Anyhow, the evidence on BPA is mixed and a bit hyped. The same attention went to aluminum in deodorant. It may be something worth avoiding, but its not necessary to do so, otherwise the FDA would have taken BPA bottles off the market by now.

the bags for the nursers are BPA free as long as you dont microwave the bottle with the bag in it then you should be safe. as far as the price goes if you really want to try glass bottles try the evenflo brand. pricey but not as much as the others.

BPA has become this huge hysteria amongst mothers, when in reality everyone’s just overreacting. BPA is in a ton of things that you AND your baby come in contact with on a day to day basis. If you’re really that worried, most companies are making their plastic bottles BPA free. I saw these new bottles called Think Baby and they are very cool looking and I’m under the impression that they are also good, BPA free, bottles. Try doing a Google search for them. BornFree are also very popular BPA free bottles. The bottles I am choosing to go with are MAM Ultivent bottles. Rave reviews and stylish product! They’re available on http://target.com and you can find the Think Baby ones at http://buybuybaby.com. I hope I helped! :)

Playtex Drop-Ins are now BPA free. They gave away a million free samples to celebrate this, I don’t know if they still have any.

Hiya hun,

I work in mothercare and we have been receiving alot of info about these bottles and what to recommend.

I don’t know where abouts you are but if you are in the USA all the BPA bottles should have been taken off the shelves, unfortunately I don’t know too much about what is going on over there.

In the UK however there is lots to know! Bottles made over here do not contain anywhere near as much as those produced elsewhere, as we have a much stricter policy to begin with. We have been advised in store that the only bottles which dont contain any BPA that we sell are those made by NUK, MAM and MEDELA. there are also the Tommee Tippee steriliser bottles, and mothercare own.

However, what has also been mentioned is that this seems to be a new ‘problem’ that has arisen, when plastic bottles have been used for years so don’t panic. We have been advised that it is still safe to buy other branded plastic bottles, and just use your common sense.

For example, when making up feeds, it is important not to put boiling water into the bottles, and to let it cool to about 70 degrees c (about 20 mins cooling) Therefore, you are not risking any chance that the hot water may stimulate this BPA in the plastic.

Secondly, as you will probably know, if you notice any scratches on the inside of bottle, you replace it straight away.

That is all I know really, but we havn’t had a drop in any bottle sales at all, and still sell all of them including avent, dr brown and tommee tippee. I think there is just an initial hype over BPA and I wouldn’t panic buy into really expensive things when there are already bottles on the market you can change to if you wish.

Hope that was helpful!

I don’t think the BPA-free bottles are worth the extra cost. When I first read the title of your question, I was going to recommend the Playtex Drop-Ins as I believe they are the best. Many people don’t agree because you do have to buy the liners; however, it is totally worth it for the safety of your baby, and still cheaper than the glass BPA-free bottles. I find that the drop-ins help to lessen gas in babies, as well as reduce spit-up. I absolutely hate the Dr. Browns.. they leak all the time. Avent is okay, but I still prefer the Drop-ins.
