BPA in baby bottles?

By pregnantnews

I was just wondering about everyone’s opinions on BPA baby bottles? Does it bother you or not? Do you not have any earthly idea what BPA is?
Full Time parent your children .. That has nothing to do with my question thank you.
I know what it is. I use BPA free as much as possible, I was just wondering what the general consensus was.
Doodlestuff- I have actually been informed that the plastic containers that Gerber use’s are bpa free- they are labeled a 7 because they are a layered plastic. The glass jars of baby food though containt bpa in the lining of the lids. I just thought i’d share that if it was on interest to you :)

Yes, it bothers me so I choose to breast feed and full time parent my children.

Yeah BPA is a kinda of clear plastic some bottles are made of. I switched my daughter from regular Dr Brown’s to the BPA free ones. I don’t feel super militant about it but they weren’t expensive and I figured better be safe than sorry right? It’s easy to tell which bottle/sippy cups have BPA cause they’re usually a really crystal clear plastic so now I just keep that in mind when I’m shopping for new sippy cups. I DO however feel that there are some bottles on the market that are ridiculously expensive because they are BPA free and are using that to market their brand for more money than other comparable bottles.
Also as a side note I believe in Canada they were all recalled and are not allowed to be sold anymore. Anyone from Canada? Can you confirm?

I have read a lot about it and researched some of the bottles to see if they were on the list before buying them. They said the BPA only leaks I guess if the bottle is heated so if you aren’t heating the bottle it shouldn’t be a problem but I would rather just be safe so I now buy bottles BPA free.

Well, our kids have been using bottles with BPA for years and years and so far they all seem ok. I traded in my old bottles at Babies’r'us because they were doing free trades, but to be honest if I had to buy the bottles new myself I probably wouldn’t have.

I’ve never heated my bottles in the microwave… I wash them in hot water, but not the dishwasher… I guess I don’t see the big issue.

It’s a non-problem if you don’t heat the bottle. If you want to heat your formula, put it into a measuring cup, heat in microwave and then pour into the bottle. Hand wash your bottles with a bottle brush instead of using the dishwasher, although the temperature is usually not over 145 F. BPA breaks down at temperatures over 170, which potentially can happen in a microwave.

Keep in mind that baby food in clear plastic containers also should not be heated in a microwave for the same reason. If the plastic is clear, it contains BPA.

BTW, the BPA issue has been going on for more than 12 years. So far, tests have not shown that BPA leaks into milk unless the plastic is old or if it is heated above 175 degrees.

it is a chemical in plastic that is believed to possibly be linked to behavior problems in children such as hyperactivity and cause harm in developing fetus, the fda recently released some statements regarding the safety of BPA in food containers at http://www.factsonplastic.com stating that it is safe but so many bottles are available without the chemical that i think why take the risk. MAMS has bottles that I love and they are BPA free and inexpensive $9 for 3 pack of 9 oz bottles there are so many others on the market too. but honestly from what i have read almost everything has BPA in it like canned foods, milk jugs, wine bottles to name a few so it is kinda hard to avoid (not that my baby is drinking wine :)

I used Avent for my son but when i found out about BPA I switched. He uses Playtex drop in bottles and Born Free trainer cup.

I figure it is best to be cautious when it comes to my sweet boy. It was a small cost to switch bottles but really just skip a few meals of dining out and its not a big deal. People act like it is expensive yet they will spend tons of money on crazy things.

I’mm from canada & no theyweren’tt recalled yet. They will come out with a decision about it tho next month.

I use bornfree glass bottles. They are cleaner and safer!
