Does anyone know of a BPA free alternative to Ventaire bottles?

By pregnantnews

I am pregnant with our first child and my first shower is next weekend. Because of all of this BPA coverage my mother is trying to make me switch to a different set of bottles for my registry. I love the Ventaire bottles. I read about them a long time ago (maybe even before I was married) and knew that those were the bottles I would register for when we got pregnant. Are there any other bottles out there like them that are BPA free?
My mother did suggest the Born Free brand but I hate them. Especially because the brand is stamped in huge letters across the bottles. (Why do bottles need brands on them anyways?)
I am going to breastfeed, however, I also work full-time and plan to return to work after my leave. So I need bottles for stored breastmilk when I can’t be at home to work.

I was like you with my first, but once the baby came I realized what a pain those bottles are! You have to wash so many different parts, and this makes sanitizing a huge process. My daughter always threw up after using them as well, which suggests that they did not do anything special for her digestion. After much trial and error, I found the Playtex nursers with the latex nipple was most like the breast, and she was able to get the most down without so much gas. This time around that is all I will use.

here is the site that gives you a list of which ones are good and which ones are bad, and in between. you can click on each brand to find out what items made by that company contain BPA and which items do not contain BPA.

the first night i heard about this, i went out to babies r us and got my son BORN FREE BOTTLES, they are BPA free. My son loves the born free bottles… much better than the ventaire playtex ones i used to have

I bought 4 cases of new, glass bottles on ebay for my baby I’m expecting here shortly. I used the ventaire with my 2 year old when he was a baby. Now, I am a bit concerned with this toxic scare and have decided on glass. Good luck!

I don’t know if they are bpa free, but Evenflo has the same bottles.

I use the playex nursers – same concept, but definately BPA free. My s-i-l used the ventaires… here’s a drawback she had, if you leave any fluid in the bottle for any length of time, it will expand the holes in the plastic pieces, and then the bottles will leak out the bottom. Just FYI

As long as you aren’t heating the formula/breastmilk in the bottles (like in the microwave) – you shouldn’t have a problem with the BPA – that is where the risk comes from. Since you can’t store the breastmilk in these bottles, I’m assuming you’ll be using plastic storage backs (gerber and other’s make them), and then you heat/defrost them in a cup of warm water, so you can still use the ventaires.

Personally, I prefer the nursers, and with breastfeeding, found the nipples the easiest to go back and forth on, and they are what I used to get my daughter latched on correctly after we had issues (pumped, used those, and then healed and tried again). But, every baby, and mom, is different.

Goodluck!
