Moms and Dads, where do you stand with BPA?

By pregnantnews

My brother-in-law just had a baby and they moving in with us so that we can help take care of them all; so I’ve been really researching on stuff about babies and I found out that Gerber (http://www.gerbercanada.com/) has a release on BPA about how they offer 2 products BPA free; which to me means the rest of the bottles contain that rish of the BPA.

If you’re a parent; what are your opinions on all the new research on the BPA? Are you worried about the bottles you were/are using?

i think as a parent you have to take one thing on at a time. If you worry about every new bit of new or research you will drive your self crazy. I still use my breast pump that has plastic pieces and I assume it has BPA. But I use cloth diapers to cut down on land fill and try to eat organic food to keep pesticides out of my body and breast milk. You have to do the best you can.

It is inevitable that our children will be exposed to something harmful. That being said I think it is good to be careful and do your best to watch what they come in contact with. I’m going to check my containers and stay away from BPA if I can. :)

My feeling is this: our world is laced with environmental toxins that are less than ideal for any living creature to take in. While I’m not going to panic about it, I’m going to try to avoid as many known risks as possible.

So while my firstborn had BPA in his bottles, my second (I’m 16 weeks) will drink from glass.

I figure it can’t hurt to avoid it.

Luckily the Playtex and Medela products I use are BPA free. If they weren’t then I would switch.

i really dont worry about it. the bpa is released when the bottles are heated to a certain temp. i have never boiled my bottles or anything, and dont every put hot water in them, or put my bottles in the microwave, so i am not worried.
there are chemicals, germs, and other things in stuff we use every single day, not just bottles…

Fortunately, we don’t use bottles enough to worry about it. I am looking for some good new BPA-free sippy cups, though.

I think that this BPA thing is like the Bumbo recall thing last year… people not using their heads correctly.

The Bumbos were recalled because people left their little loves atop counters and such when they were wiggle worms and could topple out of and off of things. So, some poor little ones did just that.

WIth the BPA, use bottles correctly. Don’t heat them up all crazy. When they get cloudy, get new ones. If they crack or otherwise get broken, get new ones. And don’t leave milk in the bottles for crazy long time periods.

My babe is yet to be born, so I have purchased BPA free bottles because I needed to buy something to use!! I have the Medela ones because I have a Medela breast pump and they just fit together without issue.

Do what makes you comfortable. If it using all BPA free things, go for it!! Just remember we can’t protect them from everything all the time…. even as much as we try! :)

I just bought about 9 Evenflo glass bottles to replace my Avent and Dr Browns.

I read about BPA too, we been using the Avent bottle for 3 half months and didn’t know about it up until now.

we replaced thtem with Born Free glass bottle, both the glass and plastic are BPA free. my son have no problem with it, doesn’t give him gas or spit up.
Born Free is expensive though, but safety is first for our kid.

good luck
