What BPA free bottle will fit a AVENT nipple?
ByWell, we’ve made the decision to switch to BPA free. We don’t think anything is wrong with our bottles, but we want to be safe, rather then sorry.
We got like 3 packs of every size nipple for Avent bottles (its a bigger wider neck then gerber) for christmas, and my husband got excited and opened all the packs! I wasn’t mad because I figured we’d use them.
Any suggestions? We’re looking at
Sassy MAM UltiVent Bottles
Thinkbaby 9-Ounce Bottle
I’m super mad at newborn free. Oooo I don’t even want to get into it. They’re horrible customer service… ahh I said I wouldn’t get in to it.
Any suggestions? Thanks!

I can’t be sure, but I was told that Avent is designed to ONLY fit Avent…many other nipples are interchangeable, but my lamaze instructor said to be warned about the Avent. You could still use them for storage in the fridge and pour into the glass bottles to heat? I would also contact a baby specialty store that sells glass bottles and ask if they know if any of those particular bottles will fit Avent. I do know that there areno stainless steel bottles/cups that have pieces designed to accomodate different nipples. Not sure, but good luck
EDIT – We use the Dr Brown’s bottles – glass and plastic (as we had bought a bunch). Mostly glass now. Our son likes them. We tried 4 other types of bottles when he turned 6 mths and stopped nursing and Dr Browns was the only one he would take, stage 3 nipples, small, not wide neck

Avent makes a BPA-free system called Avent Via, and I the pieces are interchangeable with the original Avent system.

You can check to see if the bottles you already have are safe on here…http://zrecs.blogspot.com/2008/02/z-report-on-bpa-in-infant-care-products.html Scroll down to ‘Company Ratings’ and click on your company’s name. It’ll list which products are BPA free and which aren’t.
If you are using regular Avent bottles already, they do have BPA, and that’s being listed as a toxic chemical by the Canadian government, so there is something wrong with them.
You might try to see if they fit on the Gerber Gentleflow bottle…they’re BPA free, and right on the packaging, it says that it’s similar to the Avent bottle…so it’s possible that the nipple would fit.
Although, they all try to be a little bit different so that you have to be ‘brand loyal’…sucks.

avent bottles have now been pulled off shelves along with their via system, they replaced the via system with the tempo system. it uses disposable liners much like the playtex drop-ins system. it is bpa free and it fits all the avent nipples.

I actually found your question because I wanted an answer to the same thing!
I went and bought a bunch of Gerber GentleFlow bottles. They are basically a knock-off of Avent bottles. The shape is the same, the rings and nipples are interchangeable. The difference being that there are more vents on the Gentleflow nipple and unlike the Avent nipples, there is only one “flap” (it’s hard to explain) on the Gerber nipples, versus two on the Avent.
I bought them yesterday and we used the bottles with the Avent nipples this morning, no leaks and the babies (oh yeah, twins, btw) had no problem with them. We used the Gentleflow bottle and ring.
Some people say that the Avent nipples “collapse” when used with the Gentleflow. I’m not sure yet, since we just started using them. I’m going to try to see if they like the “native” Gentleflow nipples too. I might try the Avent nipple AND ring on the Gentleflow bottle if I see some collapsing.
We had a lot of investment in the Avent system. As you can imagine, with twins, we have a LOT of bottles (like um, 40?), and we use the bottles as milk storage in the fridge too. We have the adapters that allow the Medela Pump n Style Breastpump to pump directly into the Avent bottles for storage and we use the bottles for both storage and feeding. I bought 22 gentle flow bottles to replace the Avents. (The 4 oz are quickly becoming too small anyway)
The two products are almost identical. In fact the Gentleflow box says on it “similar to the Avent Naturally system”. More like a complete duplicate! I think the slightly different nipple design was a way to dodge patent issues.
I’m SO happy we found the Gerber Gentlefow bottles. I was getting paranoid, even though I’m usually not one to fall for media hype and fear mongering….I guess when it comes to your kids you do all sorts of things!
Oddly, the Gentle flow bottles are not at Babies R Us or Target or Walmart (as far as I can tell), but they ARE available at Lucky grocery stores and Walgreens drugstores. ie; check the supermarket and drugstore for these.
The Avent bottles/nipples are excellent, by the way. Both the girls easily switch between bottle and breast. They never had any real “bottle preference” though Mom has “Bottle preference” as she’d rather not spend her entire day breastfeeding two babies. If it weren’t for the BPA POSSIBLE issue (It might be nothing!) I’d give Avent bottles top marks!
There are some brands (Born Free) which address the BPA issue, but I think they are TOTALLY GOUGING parents. THe Born Free bottles are TEN BUCKS A PIECE!
Avent bottles average about $4.50-$6.00 (depending on where you get them) the GentleFlow bottles are $3.00-$3.50 ($3.00 online from walgreens online site, and $3.50 in the store).
So for about $70, I overhauled out bottle inventory to non-BPA bottles with minimal disruption to the kids and our “system” and even if it turns out that the BPA thing is overblown hype, it didn’t break the bank to hedge our bets on this one.
Good luck, I hope this helps!

We found out that “Born Free” glass bottles are compatible with the Avent nipples. Our daugher refused to use the born free nipples, so we put on the Avent silicone nipple and it worked fine.

I switched to the GerberGentle flow – they work with all Avent caps, nipples, and rings. They are BPA free, they are almost identical to Avent bottles. I have been using the Gerber bottles with the Avent nipples and have not had any problems.
