c-section or natural (vbac)? opinions plz! who has had both? which did you prefer?

By pregnantnews

I am pregnant with my second baby. my first one was an “emergency” c-section. (I don’t think it was really needed) anyway. They are giving me the option of a vbac or a scheduled c-section. which one would you say is best. I have done my research on statistics etc. so I don’t really needed that I just need personal preference stories. I plan on having 4 kids so I am thinking vbac but just wanted to check!

Definately VBAC. No doubts about it. You have had a section, so you know about the recovery process, with that in mind, that would be my choice.

I’d rather go by research than peoples personal preference. Most people don’t do research and go for a scheduled c-section because their doctors tell them to. I’m going to try a VBAC and hope for the best.

If you’re London based contact Maya Midwifes. If you google them you should find them. They can give you information help and support. Good Luck

Good for you! I had a VBAC with #2 in 2006 and it was a great experience. If you are a good candidate, I would definitely try it.

Some things that might help:

Find a supportive doctor. Many will tell you early on that they support you and then end up pulling the rug out from under you when you’re in the homestretch, which really tears down that wall of support.

Read as much as you can. Positive birth stories and real evidence-based research helped me a lot to realize how safe this was, when properly managed! The risks of c-section are about the same, but doctors and other people will tell you how dangerous it is. That is crap. Be your own patient advocate, for yourself and your baby, and make the most informed decisions you can.

Get a doula. I had my husband and the doula with me and it was great. A non-biased third party who is totally there to do whatever is needed to help you through contractions, get you whatever you need, advocate for you, and just be there. Another great support system.

The recovery for me was much better with my VBAC than after my c-section. And if you plan on having more kids, definitely go for a VBAC. You run the risk of scar adhesions – painful scar tissue that connects to other organs and can sometimes cause infertility. I ended up having a second section in March unfortunately and think I now have adhesions, which are annoying. With more sections, the placenta can attach over the scar tissue, which is not good, either.

Basically I would recommend that you know the facts and educate yourself as much as you can. Good luck and I hope you do great!

I too had a Emergency C-section with my first daughter and like you felt it was unnecessary. But I healed quickly with no problems. When presented with the two options for my second child I spent the whole pregnancy reading everything I could. In the end I still couldn’t decide. When I asked my hubby his advice he replied ” Why mess up a good thing?” and I was sold Planned C-section it was! No regrets, my doc cut over the same scar and I was able to prepare my home, work schedule etc according to the date we planned.

I would say def. try for a VBAC.

All around it is better for you on the baby.

My first was c-section and with my second I tried for a VBAC. But there are a lot of other things wrong with my pregnancys and my body so I ended up having a emergency c-section.
But I am so happy and so grateful I at least got to try for a vaginal delivery.

I would say if you plan on having four kids then def try for a VBAC because you don’t want to have 4 c-sections.
I know for me because I have had two c-sections my hospital and doctors won’t let me try for a VBAC I have to have a c-section with my third.

Good Luck!
