How much does genetic testing cost on embryos while doing IVF?
ByI have done IVF before for $15,000 but we didn’t have the eggs tested and I wound up miscarrying. When we do IVF again, we want to have our eggs tested to make sure we are only getting healthy eggs. Do you know how much extra this costs? I live in Florida by the way.

I thought that you can only do genetic testing if you have proof of a family genetic disease? Are you sure that it’s a financial issue only?
By the way – there are all sorts of reasons for miscarrying – and it doesn’t mean that there was anything genetically wrong with the embryos. Sometimes IVF forces a situation of pregnancy in an embryo that just isn’t viable. I wish you the best of luck for next time.

First off I want to tell you how sorry I am that the first IVF didn’t work for you I can only imagine what you went through. As for cost it depends on what they are looking for. You and the father would have to have genetic screening to know what they are looking for. For example lets say you both carry the downs syndrome gene they can just look for that. Also many times the egg dies during implantation and has nothing to do with anything being wrong with your genetics. There is a place in Orlando that I highly recommend. For what you paid for one IVF they can do three or four treatments. Just look at the web page it tells you so much.
May patients have to commit to three full cycles for one live baby. I wish you all the luck in the world and hope that this can help you out a bit.

If your clinics offers it you could ask for Pre-implantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) where they take a single cell from the embryo and test it. PGD adds another $4,000 to $7,500 to the cost of each IVF attempt so you’re looking at a pretty penny but, as one who is in your shoes, it can be well worth the cost. I am thinking about doing PGD for my next IVF cycle as after 5 embyros transfers, 2 have ended in a miscarriage. PGD seems like my best bet now.
Do know that some clinics believe that PGD testing does not cover all the issues that an embryo may have. I have read that 50% of the time the testing misses abnormalities. Do talk with your clinic and get more detailed information and see if PGD is right for you based on your age and years TTC. Usually failing one IVF cycle is just luck of the drawl until your doctor finds the best medication protocol for you. The second time around works for many.
Good luck!
