How much does ivf cost and how much does donated sperm cost?

By pregnantnews

Could you please tell me an approximate cost of ivf and what the cost of donated sperm costs. I am having ivf in approximately 1 year and I need to know how much to save up for everything. Any feedback would be appreciated.
is that the cost of each attempt or all together?
I have been told by my doctor after some ultrasounds and other tests that there is no problem with my fertility but that I will need a good sperm count hence the doner sperm.

Depending on where you are at, IVF runs around $10,000- $12,000 including meds. I believe getting a sperm donor runs around $500, maybe a little less. Have you made an appt w/ a fertility specialist yet? They will be able to tell you how much it will be. Good luck!
We just got our BFP Wednesday from our 2nd try at IVF!

Thats each time! Unfortunately, it’s very expensive. We’ve joked about naming our child 20 g’s b/c that’s what it ended up costing us.
What type of “fertility issue” do you have. Are you sure you need IVF? Maybe you could try IUI 1st. Have you gone to the dr yet?

PS-You may want to try IUI a couple of times 1st. It’s way less expensive, around $1,000 (with donor sperm), and if you need good sperm, that may do the trick! Did he suggest that? Hopefully, that would be a better option for you. And I think that you may be able to get a couple of rounds of IUI with 1 sperm donation, but I’m not positive.

I don’t know how much IVF is, but in Australia (where I live) sperm is $180 so that is the very affordable part

It can run anywhere from $10,000-15,000 per attempt depending on what is done, your location, etc. Donated sperm costs anywhere from $250-500 I believe. I would check into seeing if your insurance covers any of this and also see if their are payment options to help if you don’t get enough saved by then. See if there are any studies going on soon in your area. Some women qualify for free or discounted treatments by being part of a study. Also some clinics offer “package deals” and money back if it doesn’t work type of programs. Remember that IVF doesn’t guarantee a pregnancy. It takes most couples a few attempts to get a pregnancy. Some are lucky the first go but most are not. So you may want to consider saving up for 2-3 cycles. Best wishes!!!!

Sadly it is very expensive. The medications used are the biggest part. Plus there is all the monitoring -ultrasounds and bloodwork, the doctor visits, the actual procedure of harvesting the eggs, preparing of the sperm, the transfer back into the uterus, etc. I am doing timed intercourse cycles with injectible fertility meds (low dose) and 1 cycle is costing me about $2,500 give or take. The meds are about $800-1,000 per cycle for me (the higher the dose the more expensive and with IVF they use a high dose to get many eggs) and the rest is ultrasounds and bloodwork.

Add: If everything is fine with you, then you may only need IUI with or without meds. It costs far less than IVF. You may have to use low doses of medications to stimulate your ovaries and then they will just insert the donated sperm into your uterus and see if it meets the eggs. IUI is about $500 give or take a cycle. Some women do not need the medication but if you do you may be looking at about $3,000-5,000 a cycle or less depending on the dose of medications needed. Definately talk all your options over with your doctor.
