Considering a home birth with a midwife. Any tips or info I should know?

By pregnantnews

I don’t like the birthing methods in hospitals or the use of pharmaceuticals to induce you into labor and void physical pain. I want a natural birth at home the way women have been doing since the beginning of time. Anything I should consider in looking for the right midwife, the whole experience, etc?

Brave, brave woman.

Midwives are awesome, but make sure that you and the midwife you choose are on EXACTLY the same page. She needs to know exactly what you want. You can’t leave out any details. Some caregivers listen to what you say, but have their own opinions on what should be done so it’s crucial that you’re clear on every detail. for example, if they suggest a water birth, but you don’t want it, stick to your guns!

Also, make sure that you have a backup plan with your midwife in case anything goes wrong. If you feel uncomfortable, or feel that something is wrong at ANY stage during the birth, speak up. If you want to go to the hospital, say so. Don’t be scared to say what’s on your mind. This is YOUR birth.

Well first you need to be a low risk bith, so confirm this with your doctor.

Also ask him or her for a list of recommended midwifes in the area and arrange to meet several to get a good idea of who you are comfortable with and who you want to share this experience with.

After you’ve chosen the right one, or several even, they can help you with the rest of the experience.
