A doctor, a midwife, your husband AND your mom? I don’t think you need a doula. Sounds like you have more than enough medical and personal assistance.

A doula came with my midwife. Talk to your midwife and see what see thinks. Mine even offered to teach and assist my husband to deliver my son.

A doula is nice because they will take care of anyone thats bothering you while you are in labor to leave your husband by your side, also great if your hubby freaks and steps back like oh my God I don’t know what to do she will be there.
Its costly but if you can afford it, its a good idea!

What in the ? is a doula? Juat go with the Doctor and things will go as they should, don’t try and be too back to the earth and go with someone other than the trained doctor, congrats!

With the doctor, midwife, your partner, and your mom you really don’t need another person there. I’ve heard very good things about doulas, especially from women who don’t have as much family support as you do. I’m not hiring a doula because I don’t want too many people around for the labor and delivery – lots of people in a small space stress me out! hahaha!

It depends on how your family handles things under pressure. If they’re going to be reminding you of every contraction, getting on your nerves (believe me, there’s plenty of potential for this, even in people you love! LOL) etc. then maybe you should hire one. I had one for my second birth and she was great. I only had my husband there and hospital staff, but it was a great experience having her there to calm me down when I started to get nervous, or help me through contractions (that was a tremendous help). My husband could also focus more on me, too and less on telling me when the ‘next big one’ was about to hit like he did with our first. LOL
Some doulas can also come to your house postpartum and help you with light housework, which is great!
And I do know of at least one doula who doesn’t charge, so you might want to check around. But we thought it was definitely worth the money. She helped me focus less on the pain and I didn’t even need an epidural.
Having a midwife was a great experience, too, BTW – there’s something very comforting, at least to me, about giving birth in the company of other women who have also experienced the same thing.
