How do I become a midwife?
ByI’d like to become a midwife. I live in the United States.
How do I go about doing this?
Yes, Certified Nurse Midwife.
I live in Georgia.
Do you know of any good schools that are located in Georgia?
I cant really go for a expensive school. I know of Emory but I cant afford that really.

What kind of midwife?
If you want to become a certified nurse midwife, you go to college and get a degree in nursing. Then you go to graduate school for additional trainig in midwifery.
If you want to be a direct entry/lay midwife, you find a practicing midwife to apprentice with.

To add to the first answer. You have to go to graduate school and recieve a Masters (two years) or a Doctorate (three).
Ceritfied Nurse Midwifes and Nurse Practitioners complete the same years of training.

I would start off at a community college, talk to them and say you want to get your degree as an RN nurse. Get all your basics out of the way first, if you start here its cheaper! Then transfer to a school that has the nursing program, which a lot of them do, it just takes some research on your part, and the program is 1 and a half years to get your RN license. After that you’ll need to go to a real college if youhaven’tttransferredd out of thecommunityy college first and start yourbachelorr of science degree and get your license as a midwife. Its going to take a lot of schooling, but it will be well worth it. I want to do the same thing! good luck
