Typical birthing methods in egypt?

Is it more common to deliver at home or in the hospital these days? And how if at home (water birth, with the help of midwives/nurses/doctors, etc., etc?). Also, how is someone like a “doula” pronounced in arabic? Doula’s usually help someone out w/ cooking, baby care while mom is resting + can be around for approx. 40 days.

I will tell u what I know. The birth is usually in the hospital. I don’t think I have ever seen any of the people I know ,do it at home, and I don’t come from a rich background.
The name , I suppose, is “El daya”. It’s the Arabic translation for “the mid-wife”.

hi tamarah,
well, ppl nowadays seldom deliver at home. it only occurs in really poor areas and in the suburbs. women in the city deliver at hospitals.
when they deliver at home, they do it with the assistance of the “daya”, not a doctor.. i’ve never heard of a “daya” who stays with the mother for 40 days. maybe there are some nurses who can do this, but i’ve never heard of it before.. that’s all i guess

It is definitely more common to deliver in hospitals in Egypt. Maybe in the suburbs they still deliver at home but not in big cities. I personally have not known one woman who delivered at home.
We do not have doulas in Egypt as you specify it, but you can hire a nanny who cooks or a maid who can take care of babies. and they can stay with you for as long as you determine.
