What happens after you have your membranes swept?
ByQuestion by Destany: What happens after you have your membranes swept?
I am 40 weeks + 4 days pregnant. I have not had any braxton hicks contractions. And I am only 1 cm dilated. My midwife “swept” my membranes this morning. I had really bad cramping for a few hours afterwards, but it has slowed down now. But I’m feeling a lot of pressure on my cervix… don’t know if that is normal or not.
I am so eager to have this baby, and just want to know if this worked for anyone else and the circumstances it was under! I’m looking at an induction September 5th if he doesn’t come sooner.
For the curious: I am 22, happily married, and we both have stable jobs. This is our first child.

I had my membranes swept at 40 weeks and 41 weeks and each time nothing happened. I spotted for a second and then got some light cramping but nothing that made me think I was going to have my boy. When I was 42 weeks they schedualed me for a non stress test and induction and about 3 days before the non stress trest I went into labor on my own thank god. Then the following day I gave birth to my son naturally. Sometimes membrane sweeps help bring on labor, sometimes they dont it depends on the conditions.
