What is the cost of a midwife delivery in a hospital w/o insurance?
ByI would like to know the cost of a delivery by a midwife in a hospital. My first child was a c-section due to failure to progress and low amniotic fluid. I would like to have a hospital delivery incase anything goes wrong, and would like to know if anyone has a round about price of the cost w/o insurance.
Having a midwife is just as safe as having a doctor. W/o insurance an ob and delivery would be outrageous. I am, looking into other options.
We don’t qualify for medicaid, our income exceeds it. But insurance is outrageous and we cannot find a good policy. I am just looking for the price.

why risk it? Get a doctor.

Our local hospitals are really funny about VBACs. Everyone who VBACs is referred to one hospital and those births rarely involve a nurse-midwife, although they often have a free doula. However, the cost for non-VBAC would likely be the same and that is about $2,000 less than an OB (roughly $3-4,000 total for hospital, not including prenatal care).
It is no more risky to have a midwife in a hospital birth than an OB and you are more likely to avoid a c-section. The midwife-assisted hospital births in this state have a 12% c-section rate (includes VBACs) vs. 27% OB assisted (comparing low risk patient/clients). If you are unable to get a midwife, ask if the hospital provides doulas or look around for one. Your chances of a successful VBAC are higher.

You can get free health insurance, medicaid or sign up for Healthy start. Those are programs for people who cant afford health insurance.
