Where can I find a midwife in Michigan?
ByI am thinking about having a midwife when I have kids, Where can I find one in Michigan? Also about how much does it cost compared to conventional doctors? Are there any insurance companies that cover having a midwife? Thanks

I’m in Michigan, too. I looked into having a midwife when I was pregnant with my kids but my insurance never covered it (we had two different insurance companies and our current insurance doesn’t cover it either). From what I understand, most companies don’t. I really wanted a midwife because I wanted to have our 3rd child at home. But the cost of the midwife would’ve been out of our price range with the insurance company not covering it at all. I guess I’m glad I didn’t because my baby ended up being breech and I had a c-section anyways!
Each policy of each and every insurance company will be different, though. It’s not like you can say “Blue Cross covers it” or “PPOM” does because each company deals directly with the insurance company to make up their personal contract. If you don’t find an insurance company that covers it, look for a good doctor. I found one who actually stayed with the entire time I labored and checked on me and supported me and he came back in while I pushed and was really there for me. It’s being less common but the delivery with my 4th child was PERFECT because of his influence.
