Anyone had a D&C without anesthesia?
ByIn three weeks I’m having a D&C to remove uterine polyps that showed up on ultrasound and HSG; doctor says there’s a good chance they are preventing conception (TTC more than a year).
She is giving me Valium, Vicodin, and something to relax my cervix (Cytotex, I believe–scripts are at the pharmacy). I do have the option of general anesthesia, but it will cost me $500. She says it will take about 10 minutes and that I’ll have cramping but it shouldn’t be terrible. I am pretty tough about these things, but I’m nervous. Anyone have any experiences to share? I’d rather save the $500 for IVF if I need it down the road…
Thank you for your responses, ladies.

I did a D&C late last year to remove some polyps. I got an injection on my rear and one on my cervix. The experience was aweful. I still felt the pain but it didn’t last too long thankfully, I was back at work the following day. However, since you say your tough your experience may be different. I hear that general anesthesia has risks, I would go without.

I was also diagnose with uterine polyps and on January of this year I had the surgery (hysteroscopy). my doctor Rx one single pill to used the night before surgery (misoprostol) dilator is widen the cervix. I was with a lot pain the hole night with cramps. the surgery was the easy part. because I when into general anesthesia. The surgery took about 45 minutes no pain after that. I was spotting for about 2 days.
But to be honest with you the worst for me was the pill the contractions were awful. I’m not trying to scare you.

I had a surgical abortion last year at 22 weeks pregnant due to severe fetal defects. I was awake
They gave me valium and i had cervix dialeters. It wasnt painful(physically) just the mental anguish of knowing what was happening.
