Expecting mom, heavy bleeding and cramping, should I be concerned?

By pregnantnews

I went to the ER yesterday morning with heavy bleeding and cramps and I’m about 7 weeks pregnant. The doctor was confused because my urine test and blood test were positive for pregnancy. He said that my hCG level in my blood test was a little low but he said it may be too soon to show anything too much. They did an internal ultra sound and he said there was no sign of an uterine pregnancy nor an ectopic pregnancy. But he also said it may be too soon to tell.

I then returned to the ER later that night with worse cramping and more bleeding. A different doctor said that my cervix was completely closed and showed no signs of a miscarriage. He also said that my blood test were normal which showed that I haven’t lost a lot of blood, so I could be bleeding less than I think. I have a follow up with an OBGYN on Monday but should I be concerned? This is my first pregnancy and i’m anxious. I’m prepared in case it turns out to be a miscarriage.

could just be implanation bleeding.. u never know. drink lots of water and try to take it easy until you see the OBGYN. the fact that your cervix is close is a good sign though so dont stress out too much. stress can hurt your baby.

good luck and congrats!

Well since you are so early it could just be some heavier bleeding. There is a lady I know who bled heavily throughout all 3 of her pregnancies. Like her normal period and the doctor was concerned at first, but all fo her children are fine. Since two doctors have said you basically haven’t had any signs of a miscarraige don’t get yourself worked up, just wait til’ you go on monday.

Hm, mild cramping is normal and small amounts of blood are normal, but heavy bleeding and heavy cramping are not normal. Is the blood bright red and clotty? If so, then it is a miscarriage. Try to relax, lay in bed, watch TV, read a book, whatever, and see if it calms. I wish you the best of luck, hun.

with my first i had bleeding for the first three months so i did not know that i was pregnant. if you are near your regular period time then it is possible to have some bleeding. my mother had bleeding through out her whole pregnancy with her fourth child. it is common to have bleeding and be okay. just try to be on bed rest until your doctors visit. good luck

Ok first of all the person who said implantation bleeding is not correct – you don’t have implantation bleeding 7 weeks into your pregnancy… that is three weeks post implantation! So rule that one out.

It is quite possible you are simply bleeding, which is common in the first trimester, as well as experiencing cramping, which is also common in the first trimester. I know we are all taught that bleeding + cramping = bad news. However, if your levels are still okay and your cervix is closed, you still have hope.

I had something similar happen when I miscarried at 4w4d, but my levels went way down. I had bleeding and a closed cervix but my blood test confirmed I was no longer pregnant. I passed the rest of the blood and clots several days later. Since your blood test was alright I would say you have a chance.

I fear the worst for you, but I am hoping for the best…

Here’s the low down…

If your hcg levels are low, it could indeed be because it is too early, but it could also be a sign of a miscarriage. When you go to the doc on Monday, he is more than likely gonna send you for bloodwork again. He will either compare this round of bloodwork to the levels in the one from the ER or he will send you for another workup 1-2 days later. If your levels are increasing steadily that is a good sign, but if they go down it is a miscarriage. And there is no amount of preparing yourself for a miscarriage…you will need alot of support and dont bottle up the feelings.
