When do you normally start seeing stretch marks during pregnancy?

By pregnantnews

I’m average sized and seven months pregnant. So far I haven’t gotten any stretch marks, but I’m scared that I still will. I know that everyone’s different, but for an average pregnancy when do you think is the normal time to start seeing stretch marks?

I don’t know when the normal time is. I just entered my 7th month, and noticed just a few on my lower belly, they’re brand new. I thought I was in the clear haha…but I would think the most common time would be 8 months since you and baby grow quite a bit then.

You may not get them. Ive had three pregnancies and one of them was twins and I did not get any stretch marks. A lady once told me when I was about 6 weeks with my first….. Dont scratch when you itch. It will tear your skin and cause stretch marks. I also used Cocoa butter cream religiously. I dont know if that is why I didnt get stretch marks or if I was jut plain lucky. If you arent getting stretch marks be happy!!! We are some of the few lucky ones!

you usually start to get them when your stomach is getting larger. But you can get them on your butt also, i didn’t get any stretch marks until after i had my baby and my skin shrunk back down to its size. Just remember to rub cocoa butter on your tummy, thighs, and butt! I only got them on my butt.

I had a perfect belly until 2 weeks before I delivered my son. Those last two weeks did a number on my stomach! I’ve got tons of stretch marks as high up as my belly button. I had a 9lb. 6oz. baby my first go around though… so that was probably my problem.
Also, it’s mostly hereditary. If your mom or any of your sisters got stretch marks, you probably will too. Really, there isn’t a way to protect yourself from getting them. None of my sister in laws got any stretch marks, and two of them had twins. Their mom didn’t get them either. My mom on the other hand got them, as well as her mom. Up until I got stretch marks, my mom would always say “I guess you got your dads side of the familys skin.” because none of them stretched.
Good luck!

I just turned 23 weeks and literally noticed them just two days ago on my belly, beneath the belly button. They are tiny and I am still applying lotion/oil religiously. They haven’t grown in but I do a “mark watch” every time I go to the bathroom, lol!

Everybody is different though.

There is not a set time when you get them, it all depends on your body. How much you gain and when and how stretchy you’re skin is. You will go through growing spurts and may gain 10 lbs in one week, and the next only gain a couple, its all different depending on you. My mom only gained 17 lbs when she was pregnant with my sister and had no stretch marks but one of my best friends gained almost 70 and had marks all over thighs and belly. You can use cocoa butter, rub it everywhere you think you might be stretching and start now even if you don’t see any to get in the routine of doing it. Common places that become stretched are belly, inner thighs, upper arms, and even on your sides and hips.

A large percentage of pregnant women get stretch marks on their stomach, and more than 75% of women develop stretch marks around the waist, stomach, upper legs, butt and breast during pregnancy. However, even though there are creams to help these stretch marks, pregnant women are advised against using them. These creams have a high vitamin A content, which can really affect a developing fetus.

There are many ways you can help yourself avoid pregnancy stretch marks. Wear a good support bra to avoid stretch marks on your breasts. Use a body brush to massage the areas where you want to avoid getting stretch marks. The reason stretch marks appear during pregnancy is because of the rapid weight gain some women go through, therefore if you try to avoid gaining too much weight you may be able to avoid stretch marks altogether.
