How much are you willing to pay for childcare if your child is taken care by a stay-at-home mom?

By pregnantnews

If your little one is taken care by a stay-at-home mom, how much are you willing to pay per day/hour? I mean an acceptable rate for both you and the mom.
Btw, do you know how much a cheap daycare charges?
Thanks.

Daycare costs really depend upon what state you live in. I live in GA just north of Atlanta, in my area the great day cares charge about $240 a week for an infant, the “cheap” day cares charge about $160 week for an infant. One of my friends who is a stay at home mom keeps my youngest son who is 3 months old. I pay her $100 a week for 4 or 5 days. If she only keeps him 1 to 3 days a week then I pay her $25 a day. I don’t make a ton of money but most people can be expected to pay at least 25% of their monthly income for childcare expenses.

Sometimes it depends the cost of living in the area- i live in a fairly large metroplex and the cheapest i could find a week was $145 and my hourly daycare i pay $7/hr. If my child spent the night at a baby sitters house- i would pay $90-$100 for part time [24 hour daycare]- this was only an option because of school 10pm or so. Alot of daycares are only open till 6. BUT i was thinking of moving to a smaller town- has about 6,000- 8,000 ppl i would say and daycare 6am-6pm was $65/wk at the Luthern church and $95/week same hours at the Catholic/ private school.

But if your talkin really cheap- some people get assistance from the government and pay $75 a month!!

oh, im from Texas- we have a low cost of living.

I live in Tennessee. Johnson City just a few miles south of Bristol. I saw the first answer and was shocked! I want to live in GA now. Here, for infants it is more than 400 dollars a week. The cheapest I know of is probably close to 200 dollars. As a stay at home mom, I have kept an infant and toddler at the same time for right at $100 but I knew the mother. I doubt you can get anyone that price unless you know the person that well. If you live in TN, nearby, I can give you a good deal. But odds are pretty low for that. Good Luck! Best wishes ~Jess

EDIT: Second answer made me think about another option. There is something called Families First where I live and also other government agencies where you can get them to pay a private babysitter. This is really good if you qualify. You could use anyone! I know someone who had her mother watch her daughter while she went to work and the state paid her mom for the caregiving. Thought that would be a piece of info. for you to look into.

My children used to go to a daycare center when I worked I was paying $780 mth for my son and $300 for my daughter.

Now that I stay home I keep children in my home and charge $30 day for the 1st child and $15 for the 2nd child.

I don’t know about daycare, but I used to Nanny and I got $13 per hour. If I were to watch a baby full time in my home and supply the food I think I would charge about $150-$175 a week. I live in the Chicago land area.

It depends a lot on the age of the child. For babies-toddlers I think $100 a week is far.

Cheap daycares would be around $250 a week for an infant to $180-200 a week for a toddler to preschooler.
