At what point in a baby’s development does it begin to feel pain?

Sorry, I probably should have asked, can a baby feel pain while in the womb?
Lannah, that is horrible… I can’t imagine anyone getting an abortion if they could see the baby they are killing crying inside of them.

I dont think that they would have any reason to be in pain while in the womb. Newborns feel pain.

They start to feel pain around 9-12 weeks in the womb. That’s when nerves start forming

I believe they can feel pain during development in the womb.

i would imagine they do….if they can pass away they must encounter some kind of pain. Otherwise they wouldnt. I mean u see pregnant people be careful with their tummies and such. They do not want to damage their baby. I know i am clumsy and pregnant so i am being super careful….I feel nervous about every bump and rub

It’s controversial but babies can definitely feel things and react to pain and other stimuli inside the womb.
Science says that a baby can start feeling pain as early as 20 weeks gestation. This is because nerves have started to develop.
Psychology says that a baby can start feeling pain during the second trimester because pain originates in the cortical areas of the brain and they develop during this time.
A baby definitely feels pain at 25 weeks gestation. We knows this because babies can be born and can survive at 25 weeks gestation and therefore tests have been done that show that these babies feel pain when getting poked for an IV (brain imaging studies). (If these babies feel pain outside the womb, there’s no reason they wouldn’t feel pain inside the womb).
Also, interestingly, there’s been studies done where women who get abortions have a camera up there with the vacuum and the fetuses are seen crying during the procedure. However, I don’t know the details of the age of these fetuses.
Edit – Abortion is a choice that some people choose. I’m not going to comment either way on the decision but there was a study done, and I’m sure you can search YouTube and find the video…if you want.
